Keeping Fit on the Road: Travel’s No Excuse!
There are a lot of people who are stuck traveling constantly, and the question comes up, “How can I stay in shape if I’m always on the road?” That’s a really good question. In fact, for many people who are stuck traveling constantly that is the main question. Everyone has problems consistently working out, and that’s even before constant travel is put into the equation.
The key is to go with a workout plan that is designed to be fast and self contained, like the 3X method. What are the chances after a long drive or flight of getting to the hotel room, changing to workout clothes, going downstairs, working out in a gym for an hour, then coming back to clean up? Not much. But if you’re using a high intensity 9 minute workout that can actually be done in the hotel room, there’s a very good chance you could make that a habit and it would stick.
The biggest factor that determines the success of any workout is how easy it is to turn into a habit. A good work out is easy to duplicate no matter where you are, and it needs to be short so your body can get used to it as a daily habit. People are creatures of habit. Many people get into bad habits because many bad habits are lazy and easy. Getting a workout that you can do anywhere and making your body get used to workouts as a habit is going to make it so you even crave these short workouts every time you check into a new hotel room.
Don’t think about fitness centers, think about resistance bands and body weight exercises. You can do these in any hotel room anywhere around the globe. You need to think in a way that increases your chance of success. If you do a 9 or 10 minute high intensity workout every day, your body is going to assume that’s habit, and even crave the exercise when you’re running a little late. Our brains function off habit – if you’re used to doing the same high intensity exercise on the road as at home, then your chances of sticking with a fitness program is going to sky rocket.
There’s even more to this habit than losing weight. Studies have shown over and over that people who stay in shape have more efficient brain use, more confidence, and are more capable at working and performing at any task than someone who isn’t.
So make these short intense hotel room workouts a habit, and you find success might turn out to be easier than you first thought.
